What does the Act on Foodstuffs and Goods in Daily Use comprise?
Additives
Additives are substances there are added to products (foodstuff etc.) in small quantities in order to achieve a positive effect on production, storage, processing or product properties during and after the utilization phase. The utilization of these additives is strictly regulated by defined International/European/German law.
Foods and Goods of Daily Use
Foodstuffs are substances which are intended to be consumed by human beings in an unprocessed, processed or prepared condition. The definition of “food” is also defined as a nutrition substance that people eat or drink in order to maintain life and growth. Not everything is legally considered “foodstuff”.
Tobacco Products
Tobacco products are obtained exclusively or partly from raw tobacco which are intended to be smoked, chewed or otherwise used orally. Nicotine contained in tobacco is highly addictive and tobacco use is a major risk factor for cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, over 20 different types or subtypes of cancer, and many other debilitating health conditions. It can only be sold under very strict legal regulations.
Cosmetic Preparation
Cosmetic articles are intended to be rubbed, poured, sprinkled or sprayed on, or introduced into, or otherwise applicated to, the human body or any part thereof for cleansing, beautifying, promoting attractiveness, or altering the appearance, and includes any article intended for use as a component of cosmetic.
